Ecosocialist Seminar in Memory of Joel Kovel
The legendary Bread and Puppet Theater invites you to an Ecosocialist Seminar in Memory of the late great Joel Kovel!
As celebrated August 18, 2018 at the Bread & Puppet Farm in Glover, Vermont. Activist colleagues, family, B&P puppeteers and musicians offer spirited memories and deep and high inspiration for the future of Life, Itself on this planet in honor of Kovel’s remarkable life. Video shoot and edit by his widow, media activist DeeDee Halleck, and Jerome Lipani.

Earl will lead a blessing and start the procession to the Bread and Puppet Memorial Village.
After the presentations, Peter Schuman and several members of Bread and Puppet will lead us to the Pine Forest where there will be a dedication of a memorial to Joel.
Music by Bread and Puppet and Sarah Saul and the Free Life Ensemble.
There will be a chance for others to speak about Joel and his work in the Pine Forest Memorial Village.
Bios:
Quincy Saul is an organizer, musician, author of comic books, and co-founder with Joel Kovel of Ecosocialist Horizons.
Ezra Halleck is Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the NYC College of Technology, City University of New York, and is a member of several choral initiatives in NYC.
Brian Dolphin is a scholar of Ethnomusicology at CUNY Graduate Centersong writer, musician and the leader of Ukrainian Village Voices.
Tamar Schumann is on the Board of the Bread and Puppet Theater and has been trained in a variety of healthcare therapies. She has worked as a filmmaker and co-directed Ah, The Hopeful Pageantry of Bread and Puppet.
Leigh Brownhill is an activist, artist, editor, teacher and writer. Her research focuses on social movements, decolonizing ecofeminisms and the political ecologies of food and energy commons in local and global contexts.
Colia L. Clark is a committed Pan Africanist, and has spent a lifetime in activist work in the areas of environmental justice, civil rights, human rights, womens rights, workers rights and rights.
Kanya D’Almeida is a freelance journalist, formerly the race and justice reporter for Rewire News and regional editor for Asia and the Pacific for the Inter Press Service (IPS) news agency. She recently completed an MFA at Columbia University, and is a co-founder with Joel Kovel of Ecosocialist Horizons.
Ghani Songster is a poet and teacher who helped organize an Ecosocialism study group in prison with Joel’s writings as prime source.
Clare Dolan is a long time member of the Bread and Puppet Theater and is the founder of the Museum of Everyday Life.She has created several installations about cantestoria and crankie theater.
Earl Kooperkamp is the Priest at the Barre Episcopal Church and was an important advisor to Joel. Earl was arrested during an Occupy demonstration in Lower Manhattan.
