Ecosocialist Concert and Convergence
This is your invitation to a concert and a convergence, combining art and politics inspired by the grassroots mobilization at an ecosocialist convergence this past April in Pittsburgh.
This convergence launched an urban garden project during three days of an encuentro featuring farmers, scientists, artists and activists, who gathered from all over the world – from Vermont to Chicago and from Mexico to Canada – around a vision and a practice of liberation for humanity and nature.
El Taller Latinoamericano and Ecosocialist Horizons are hosting a concert celebrating this groundbreaking cross regional solidarity and eco-centric community building, as part of the historic Taller Latinoamericano’s 35 Year Anniversary.Artists will include the renowned Ernesto Villalobos (violin) and Ben Barson (baritone sax), who will also be celebrating birthdays, in a cross-pollinating revolutionary ensemble with influences from hip-hop, merengue, jazz, Mexican folk music, opera, and more.
Amir Rashad, acclaimed artist and African American community organizer who has built and maintained urban gardens on three different continents and 10 countries, will be representing Pittsburgh’s urban garden project. The 8-piece folk and bluegrass band “The Hills and Rivers” will also be coming from Pittsburgh to celebrate the forging of new alliances.
Join us in a continuation of a weekend of planting flowers in the soil and ideas in the minds of the people!
